When life knocks you down, it’s good to be reminded of what you can do to ‘bounce back’. Based on my research on resilience and personal experiences here are some ideas:
Practising optimism - Finding something positive to be grateful for, every day.
Perspective - Would you be able to stand back and take a longer look at the current situation? Would that help? If not, ignore this one.
What has helped you in the past to get back on track?
Taking positive action regularly – This is my favourite!
Treating problems as learning - My second favourite!
Finding support (as appropriate) - Choose carefully.
Persistence in moving forward - especially when you don’t feel like it.
Building self-belief - Regular practice of these ideas should help. Surrounding yourself with
positive people is good for me. Avoid the ‘naysayers’.
Most importantly, developing a sense of purpose that motivates you. Have you got clarity on this?
It’s a big subject, but here are a few more questions to get you thinking:
- Are there significant times in life when you felt really ‘alive’?
- What do they tell you about who you really are and what you can become?
- Do you have ‘soapbox topics’ that you are always keen to talk about?
- What are your passions?
- Can you make more time for these?
I do hope these ideas help!
Can you add to this list? I’d love to hear from you.
